University of North Carolina Wilmington
Chair, Department of Theatre 2014- Present 
Responsible for all aspects of a BA Theatre program with options in Performance, Design/Technical and Custom.  We have 120+ majors with 10 full time and 7 part-time faculty and 4 part-time staff.  
Oversee all facets of the season including: selection, budget oversight, hiring guest artists, scheduling, public relations and all operations.


Western Carolina University (member of the University of North Carolina System)
Director: School of Stage & Screen, Cullowhee, NC (2008-2014)
Director, Professor, Tenured: Responsible for all aspects of running an undergraduate B.F.A and B.A. Theater, Music Theatre and Motion Picture & T.V. Production training programs with 160+ majors and 60+ dance minors, including: managing twelve full-time, eight part-time faculty members and three staff positions.  Manage 8-12 plays/musicals/student films per season. Oversee all facets of the season including: selection, budget oversight, hiring guest artists, scheduling, public relations and all operations.  Facilities include:  3 theatres, 2 film stages, 3 dance studios, digital editing lab, scene shop, costume shop, occupying seven buildings throughout campus.  All management is done in collaboration and cooperation with program directors in, Theatre, Music Theatre, Motion Picture and Dance.  Other duties include: recruiting, fundraising, faculty development, strategic planning, marketing, NAST (accreditation/planning/reporting) and facility planning. We are SACS and NAST accredited.

College of Santa Fe, Performing Arts Department: Santa Fe, NM (2005 – 2008)
Chair, Associate Professor: Responsible for all aspects of running an undergraduate B.F.A and B.A. theater training program with 120 majors, including: managing six full-time, 12 part-time faculty members and four staff positions.  Managed six play season including: season selection, budget oversight, hiring guest artists, scheduling,  public relations and all operations related to a two theatre facility.  Other duties included: recruiting, fundraising, faculty development, strategic planning and facility planning.  Producer: Garson Theatre Company, a professional theatre company located on the campus of the College of Santa Fe.  While I was Producer, the company produced  two seasons of “New Works” that included plays by internationally known playwrights, Israel Horovitz and Mark Medoff, as well as newer playwrights, Michael McKeever, Stephen Metcalfe and Amy Lanasa.

Highlights:
·       Created new mission for professional theatre company
·       Increased enrollment by 60% in the Performing Arts Department in the first year

·       Created a program to support new and existing playwrights to develop new plays.

College and Community Service in Santa Fe:
       o   Faculty Lecture Series: Title: The Future and Financial Well-Being of the Professional Non-profit Theatre.  This was presented in the Forum lecture hall to faculty, students, members of the theatrical community and public.  This lecture was reviewed in the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper.
       o   Member of Santa Fe Performing Arts Committee
       o   Grants Panel member for the State of New Mexico Arts Commission: Performing Arts Category with budgets above $250,000.
       o   Grants Panel member for the City of Santa Fe’s Arts Commission.
       o   Two editorials printed in the Pasatiempo section of the New Mexican newspaper.
       o   Feature article in Fall VISTAS publication
       o   Presented Teo Castellanos’ N.E. 2nd Avenue.  This was presented as part of the Claire Stewart William’s Guest artist program.  It was attended by over 200 people, faculty, students and many member of the community.  I was also proud of the fact that I did this as a co-sponsorship between Performing Arts Department, student government, and student activities.  This was part of my commitment to open the department’s doors and serve the greater student body as well as the community.  This was also part of our attempt to reach out to our Hispanic community.
        o   Hosted two other guest speakers as part of this series:
                     o   Marty Markinson: Broadway producer and owner of the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway.
                      o   Larry Wilker: Broadway producer and former president of the Kennedy Center and the original producer of Urinetown: the Musical. 

         o   Created an active dialogue with local theatre critic Robert Nott:  I worked with him about a panel discussion with the subject being: the artist, the critic and the public.

Visiting Associate Professor of Lighting Design: Taught all levels of lighting design/technology including Graduate and Undergraduate, majors and non-majors.  Responsible for both the MFA & BFA Lighting Programs.  Created new curriculum for graduate MFA lighting design program.  Supervised all lighting in two performance spaces and a light lab. Recruited for MFA lighting program

University of Miami, Department of Theatre Arts, Miami, FL (1991-1999)
Assistant Professor of Lighting Design: Responsible for teaching lighting design for BA & BFA Programs.  Head of Design/Production (1991-1997) Responsible for all aspects of a 5 member design & production staff, which produced 4 -6 shows annually and instructed students in Design and Technology.  Duties include lighting design, recruiting, fiscal control, teaching, and curriculum design.

Classes Taught: All levels of Lighting Design, Stage Management, Drafting, Technical Production, Introduction to Theatre and Film.

Tarleton State University: Fort Worth, Texas (1983-1984)
Technical Specialist: Coordinated all aspects of usage for a four-theatre complex, including art gallery and recording studios.  Duties included lighting design, contract negotiations with artists, scheduling, training and management of all events ranging from guest artists and campus activities to a rental facility, which presented business meetings, as well as locally produced performances.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Caldwell Theatre Company: Boca Raton, FL (1993-2011)
Resident Lighting Designer: (1993-2011).  In 18 seasons designed 82 productions including:  12 World premieres and 10 shows nominated + 2 show winning the Carbonell Award (South Florida Critic’s Association) for Best Lighting Design.
General Manager/Artistic Associate: (2001- 2005) Responsible for all aspects of running a Professional Theatre including complete fiscal planning and implementation of an annual budget of $2.4 million. Consult on Season selection.  Negotiated contracts with vendors and artists.   Supervisor of 20 full-time and numerous part-time employees. Community liaison for the company.  Responsible for a 4 show regular season and a two show summer season.  Consult on improvements to facilities and equipment. Artistic Director for the Outreach Series of new play readings and special performances, including play selection, casting and directing.

Highlights:
·       Appointed to City of Boca Raton North Federal Task Force
·       Awarded a $30,000 matching technology grant from the State for Projection Equipment
·       Created investment plan for endowment funds
·       Created $1,000 Club: Fund Raising strategy that raised over $200K for new building
·       Successfully managed finances during economic downturn without adversely affecting artistic quality.  Increased earned income by $200K and reduced expenses by $100K
·       Created Partnership with real estate developer to finance and build new theatre complex

Salzman Studios: Cleveland, Ohio (1987-1991) Miami, FL (1991-1999) Boca Raton, FL (1999-2002)
Owner:  Design/Events Management Company whose goal was to offer quality design and dependable workmanship to the performing arts and business community. Clientele included: President Clinton’s Presidential Inaugural Committee, Caldwell Theatre Co., Florida Philharmonic, Coconut Grove Playhouse, Cleveland’s Playhouse Square Center, Pirate Playhouse, Great Lakes Theatre Festival, PPG Industries, Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue, Heinz Corporation, General Electric.

Cape Cod Melody Tent: Hyannis, MA.  (Summer 1990)
General Manager: Responsible for all aspects of summer entertainment facility, presenting over 50 attractions in 2 months, including operational budget of two million dollars.  Supervised staff of 50, encompassing box office, production, security, maintenance and sales staff.  Worked closely with city officials for permits and compliance with ordinances.  Duties included contracts, settlements and site coordination of major capital improvements to the facility

Cleveland Play House: Cleveland, Ohio (1984- 1987)
Resident Lighting Designer/Production Manager: Responsible for operation of professional four-theatre complex.  Position encompassed management of 13 fully mounted productions annually.  Served as the liaison between management and unions (IATSE, USA, & AEA) to maintain artistic integrity. Supervision of over 25 employees, contract negotiations with union and non-union personnel, coordination of rental activities, and acting resident lighting designer. Fiscal responsibilities included preparation and management of 1.5 million-dollar production budgets.  Assistant Production Manager: Developed and monitored computerized budget systems, purchasing and inventory control of shop materials, coordination of guest artist series, and scheduling of personnel.

 
Taft Attractions, Kings Dominion: Richmond, Virginia (Summer 1983)
Stage Manager: Management of a 15 member cast for entertainment theme park.  Maintained artistic integrity for over 350 performances.  Supervised actors, technicians and house-management staff.

Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera: Pittsburgh, PA (Summer 1982)
Equity Production Stage Manager: Responsible for summer season of 6 musicals in 6 weeks, with an Equity company of 40 and IATSE crew of 25.  Coordinated all schedules for load-in, technical rehearsals and performances.
